Article Submissions

Scholarly Articles or Book Reviews for publication should be original material not published or under consideration for publication elsewhere.  Articles should not exceed 12,000 words. Book Reviews should not exceed 3,000 words. Contributors are requested to include abstracts of their Article, in both English and Spanish, the length of each abstract not to exceed 150 words. Articles are peer reviewed anonymously. References to the author’s own work should be made in the third person.

Manuscripts (scholarly articles and book reviews) must be submitted via e-mail to the General Editor of JHM  (Alberto Acereda [acereda@asu.edu]). Full name, institutional affiliation, telephone number, e-mail and regular mail addresses of the author must be included within the text of the e-mail message. All articles--original, unpublished, blind submissions (no reference to author's name and institutional affiliation)--should be sent as e-mail attachments in Microsoft Word (PC compatible) in the required format.

Required Format: Title, Complete text of the article, Endnotes, Works cited, without font changes. The fonts should be: Georgia, Times New Roman or Arial size 12 points.  Do not insert page numbers at all.

Complete Text of the Article: all paragraphs must be in single space, without indentation and with one blank line between paragraphs. For long quotations or poems, use the indentation feature for all. For shorter quotes, use quoting marks (“…”) throughout the article, and remember that indented quotes do not require quotation marks. All quotes and references need to be verified.

Endnotes: should be in the numerical orden to that which corresponds to the numbers of the notes that appear within the text […]. The endnote number should appear within parenthesis […]; each note is considered as a paragraph. Do not use the automatic Word feature to insert notes as these endnotes should be written in a separate section under the title NOTES, just before the WORKS CITED section.

Works Cited: use the alphabetical order by author. Follow the style guidelines of the MLA regarding the way to quote and the use of italics and quoting marks. Each work cited is considered a separate paragraph. Leave a blank space between each bibliographical entry.

Photographs, pictures or images --including textual manuscripts--: send by e-mail attachment in .jpg format. Book Reviews should not have notes or works cited.
